Trump Extends Russia Sanctions for Another Year

U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to keep the sanctions on Russia going for another year. These were originally put in place by Joe Biden back in April 2021 because of Russia’s aggressive actions abroad, and they were made even tougher in March 2022 after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The official announcement, dated April 10, was made public in the U.S. Federal Register. The sanctions are part of a national emergency declaration that lets the U.S. target people and companies seen as threats to national security or foreign policy.

Trump said, “I’m extending this for another year,” referring to the same order Biden signed. He recently mentioned he might even consider tougher secondary sanctions if Russia’s president doesn’t stick to his promises  though Trump said he’s pretty sure Putin will keep his word.

In the U.S., national emergencies like this stay in place for a year at a time unless the president renews them, which gives the government extra powers to deal with the situation.

In another attack, Russian troops used an FPV drone to strike a civilian car near the village of Oleksandro-Kalynove in the Donetsk region. The incident happened around 3 p.m., leaving three people injured.

The Donetsk Prosecutor’s Office reported that two men, aged 49 and 55, and a 59-year-old woman were hurt by the explosion, suffering from shrapnel wounds, concussions, and other injuries. All three received medical attention.

A war crimes investigation has been launched over this attack.

The Donetsk region remains one of the most dangerous spots in Ukraine, with constant shelling damaging homes, businesses, and essential services. The region also has the country’s longest frontline, stretching about 300 kilometers.

On the same day, Russian drones also attacked the town of Kostiantynivka, damaging more civilian infrastructure.
