Trump Takes a Swing at Business Leaders Criticizing His Tariffs
On Easter Sunday, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to fire shots at business leaders who aren’t on board with his tariff plans. According to Trump, these critics aren’t just bad at business they’re even worse at politics.
“The businessmen who criticize tariffs are bad at business, but really bad at politics,” Trump posted. He also claimed he’s actually the best friend American capitalism has ever had, whether these folks realize it or not.
A couple of big names have publicly called out Trump’s tariff moves. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon recently said Trump’s tariffs are shaking America’s reputation and could even push the U.S. closer to a recession. He warned it’s not just about markets anymore it’s about keeping the Western world strong and democratic.
Mark Cuban, the outspoken investor and Shark Tank star, wasn’t shy either. Cuban predicted prices would climb fast, no matter where products are made, and companies would start cutting jobs and hoarding inventory to brace for the higher costs.
Even Elon Musk, typically a Trump ally, distanced himself a bit, calling for a “free trade zone” between the U.S. and Europe and criticizing Trump’s trade advisor. Elon’s brother, Kimbal Musk, went further, calling Trump’s tariff plan a “permanent tax” on American consumers.
Meanwhile, Trump had announced sweeping new tariffs on April 2, hitting over 180 countries. Some kicked in right away, while others were delayed after heavy backlash and a major market sell-off.
No official word from the White House yet, but one thing’s clear: Trump isn’t backing down, and neither are his critics.
