Trump’s Diplomatic Push: 30-Day Ceasefire in the Works for Ukraine-Russia Conflict

Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, has revealed that the main goal of ongoing talks between the US, Ukraine, and Russia is to establish a 30-day ceasefire. During this time, the parties would discuss the possibility of a full peace deal.

Witkoff said the temporary ceasefire would lay the groundwork for future negotiations. He believes that after a 30-day pause, the discussions could shift toward a permanent ceasefire. He mentioned that the process involves understanding battlefield conditions, starting with the situation in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.

While Ukrainian officials have denied claims of Ukrainian forces being encircled in Kursk, Witkoff echoed Trump’s statements on the matter. He also pointed out that the lengthy border between Ukraine and Russia sees frequent clashes, which each need to be addressed individually.

Despite the complexity of the situation, Witkoff expressed optimism, stating that the issues have been narrowed down significantly, and he believes the US can help mediate a resolution.

A key upcoming meeting between Ukrainian and American delegates in Saudi Arabia will aim to discuss the terms of various ceasefire options. In addition, talks may involve separate rooms for Ukrainian and Russian representatives, with the US acting as an intermediary.

These discussions come after the White House announced a new round of peace talks, set to take place in Saudi Arabia on March 23.
