Trump’s Executive Order Sparks Legal Showdown with Houston Firm Over 2020 Election and DEI”

Trump Cracks Down on Houston Law Firm Over Election Lawsuits and Diversity Policies

President Trump’s administration is going after a major Houston law firm, Susman Godfrey LLP, accusing it of crossing lines with both its past lawsuits over the 2020 election and its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts.

In a new executive order issued Wednesday, Trump blasted the firm for “weaponizing” the legal system and supposedly undermining the U.S. military by supporting “radical ideology.” The order strips Susman Godfrey lawyers of their security clearances, limits their access to federal buildings, and threatens contracts tied to their clients.

Susman Godfrey played a big role in Dominion Voting Systems’ massive defamation case against Fox News, which ended with a $787.5 million settlement. They’re also representing Dominion in other lawsuits against conservative media outlets and former Trump allies like Rudy Giuliani.

The firm hit back hard, calling the move unconstitutional and saying it’s ready to fight. “We believe in the rule of law, and we take that duty seriously,” the firm said in a statement.

This isn’t the first time Trump has gone after law firms tied to his legal headaches. Others, like Perkins Coie and Paul Weiss, have also been targeted. Some have taken legal action in return, while a few struck deals with the administration  like scrapping DEI programs and agreeing to audits  to avoid penalties.

Trump’s been especially critical of firms that supported election challenges against him or worked on cases tied to the January 6 Capitol riot. His executive orders are clearly aimed at reshaping the legal world to match his administration’s values  and punishing those who’ve opposed him in court.
