Trump’s Masters Picks: Scheffler, DeChambeau, Rose — But No McIlroy

President Keeps It Classy While Naming His Favorites for Augusta Glory

If there’s one thing President Donald Trump takes as seriously as politics—it’s golf.

Whether he’s teeing off at Mar-a-Lago or weighing in on the PGA’s biggest stages, the 45th (and current) President of the United States is never far from the fairway. So when the Masters rolled around this year, it was only a matter of time before someone asked him the question: “Who are you backing to win?”

Trump didn’t flinch. But he also didn’t play favorites… not exactly.

All the Golf, All the Time

It’s no secret Trump’s golf game is alive and well. Rumor has it he’s hit the links six times in the first seven weeks of the year. Not bad for someone running a country, right?

And with a portfolio of golf courses stretching from the U.S. to Scotland and Ireland, he’s got the credentials. Trump’s not just watching the Masters—he’s living it.

Scheffler, DeChambeau, Rose… But “They’re All Friends”

Now, defending champ Scottie Scheffler may be the hot name in golf this season. The man’s won the green jacket twice—2022 and 2024—and is eyeing back-to-back titles this year. Trump gave Scheffler his props, calling him “great” and even referring to him as a friend.

But when pressed to name a winner, the President turned diplomatic: “They’re all friends of mine.”

Bryson DeChambeau? He’s on the list. Justin Rose? Yep, him too. But Trump stopped short of giving any one golfer his official endorsement.

Rory Who?

One name that didn’t make the cut? Rory McIlroy.

There’s no love lost between McIlroy and Trump. Their political differences have played out publicly, and while Trump was tossing out praise like candy to Scheffler and DeChambeau, McIlroy didn’t even get a mention.

Intentional? Probably. Surprising? Not really.

Will He Show Up in Augusta?

Trump hasn’t confirmed whether he’ll make an appearance at Augusta this year. But he was front and center at the Super Bowl, so a surprise visit isn’t off the table.

For now, he’s content watching from the sidelines—and maybe sending a few friendly texts to his golfing pals in the tournament.

And if Scheffler does manage a repeat? He’d be the first since Tiger Woods pulled it off in 2001–2002. That kind of history would be hard to ignore—even for a President with a full calendar.

Final Thoughts?

Trump may not have named a clear favorite, but his love for the game is loud and clear. Whether it’s Scheffler, DeChambeau, Rose—or someone unexpected—one thing’s for sure:

The President’s watching. And somewhere, probably between holes, he’s rooting for a great tournament… and maybe another golf photo op soon.
