Jameson Williams gave fans a glimpse of his potential last season, topping 1,000 receiving yards and emerging as a legitimate deep threat for the Detroit Lions. But according to the team’s coaching staff, what he showed in 2024 might just be the beginning.
Lions offensive coordinator John Morton, who was with the team when Williams was drafted in 2022, is blown away by the progress the former first-round pick has made. Morton said Williams has been “unbelievable” both in meetings and on the field, praising his focus, attention to detail, and elite speed—comparing it to that of Reggie Bush.
Williams also has a new position coach this year in Scottie Montgomery, who previously worked with the team’s running backs. Montgomery was impressed from day one, noting that Williams showed up at the facility during the offseason without needing to be called—something he sees as a big sign of maturity and dedication.
Even more telling is how Williams is now participating in meetings, asking high-level questions that show just how much his football IQ has developed. Montgomery said the growth he’s seeing from Williams is real, though he admits there’s still work to do before the season kicks off.
The Lions believe if Williams keeps progressing, he could reach an entirely new level in 2025—and they’re excited to see just how high he can fly.
