Underdog to Impact Player? Dan Jackson Turning Heads in Detroit

The Lions took a flier on Georgia safety Dan Jackson in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but don’t let that late selection fool you — this kid plays like he’s got something to prove. And he does. Once a walk-on in college, Jackson clawed his way into a starting role on one of the best defenses in the country.

Over on the Pride of Detroit YouTube channel, Meko and Morgan sat down to break down some of Jackson’s final college film — specifically, games against powerhouse programs like Texas and Alabama. What stood out? Physicality, instincts, and a nose for the ball.

Jackson reads plays quickly, doesn’t hesitate to fly downhill, and knows how to make his presence felt in the alley. He’s not about finesse — he’s about finishing. That kind of play style might not crack the Lions’ loaded safety rotation (with Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch leading the way), but it’s exactly what special teams coordinator Dave Fipp dreams about at night.

There’s a real path for Jackson to make this roster, and it starts on special teams. If he keeps making these kinds of plays in camp, he’ll force the coaching staff to make room for him.
