The Denver Broncos are receiving encouraging news from their offseason program, especially at the wide receiver position. Early sessions of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and minicamp suggest that none of the team’s young receivers are underperforming—an encouraging sign for a unit in need of a breakout contributor.
A Surprising Draft Pick Drawing Praise
Among the emerging talents is rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant, a player passed over by the majority of the league during the 2025 NFL Draft. Bryant’s 40-yard dash time of 4.61 seconds led to low expectations, with most analysts projecting him as a Day 3 selection. However, the Broncos selected him with the 74th overall pick, a decision that was initially met with confusion and criticism.
As practices unfold, that pick is beginning to look more and more justified.
Making Plays in Minicamp
Team insider Andrew Mason reported that Bryant was the “biggest beneficiary” of veteran receiver Devaughn Vele’s absence during recent practices. Bryant capitalized on the opportunity by making a highlight-worthy leaping touchdown catch during red zone drills, in addition to several other standout plays throughout the session.

The Broncos’ familiarity with Bryant may have played a role in their confident draft selection. Jim Leonhard, the team’s defensive backs coach and defensive pass game coordinator, previously coached at the University of Illinois—Bryant’s alma mater. Leonhard’s firsthand knowledge of Bryant’s abilities likely influenced the front office’s decision-making process.
Pro-Ready Skill Set
Despite his modest straight-line speed, Bryant has shown a remarkable ability to create separation and win matchups using polished routes and physicality. His skill set appears more developed than many of his rookie peers, and he is quickly making a case for meaningful playing time in 2025.
