Minnesota Weighs Bold Move as QB Carousel Spins
The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly considering a major move that could shake up their quarterback situation. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the team is “leaning towards” signing Aaron Rodgers, but internal debates and a lack of urgency could delay any final decision.
Vikings’ Quarterback Dilemma
The past few seasons have been a rollercoaster for the Vikings at the quarterback position. After Kirk Cousins departed for the Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota brought in Sam Darnold and drafted J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy, the highly touted first-round pick, was close to earning the starting job before suffering a season-ending injury.
With Darnold now gone, the Vikings appear ready to hand the reins to McCarthy. However, if the team lacks confidence in his recovery timeline, adding Rodgers could serve as both an insurance policy and a short-term upgrade.
Steelers Waiting as Minnesota Enters the Picture
Rodgers has long been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are still searching for their 2025 starter. The Steelers had reportedly made him their top target, but with Minnesota now in the mix, the situation has become far more complicated.
Russini acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the decision. “I don’t get the feeling from the Minnesota side to this, the Aaron Rodgers side to this, that anyone is in any hurry to get this done,” she said.
Rodgers’ Next Move Remains Unclear
As always with Rodgers, predicting his next step is difficult. The four-time MVP could still stay in New York with the Giants, opt for Minnesota or Pittsburgh, or even retire altogether.
For the Steelers, missing out on Rodgers would be a major setback. Their options would then be limited to Mason Rudolph or possibly making a move for Cousins. Either way, this wasn’t the situation Pittsburgh envisioned heading into the offseason.
For now, the NFL world waits as Rodgers keeps his next move under wraps.
