Vikings’ Rivals Offer a Blueprint for O-Line Rebuild, Secondary Upgrade

Lions Upgrade Secondary with D.J. Reed Signing

The Detroit Lions wasted no time replacing Carlton Davis, who left for a three-year, $60 million deal with the New England Patriots. In response, Detroit landed a better option—signing D.J. Reed to a three-year, $48 million deal.

Reed, who spent the last three seasons locking down receivers opposite Sauce Gardner with the New York Jets, brings durability and consistency—two traits Detroit’s secondary desperately needed. In 2022, Pro Football Focus ranked Reed as the 12th-best cover corner, while Gardner grabbed the spotlight as No. 1. With this move, the Lions not only saved money but arguably upgraded at the position, solidifying their defense for another playoff push.
