Walking the Same Path: What Following His Dad’s Footsteps Means for Kaiir Elam

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired cornerback Kaiir Elam from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick. As part of the deal, the Cowboys also receive a 2025 sixth-round pick from the Bills.

Elam, a first-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft (23rd overall), struggled to secure a consistent starting role in Buffalo, starting 12 of 29 games over three seasons and recording two interceptions and 81 tackles. His move to Dallas provides an opportunity for a fresh start and addresses the Cowboys’ need for depth in the secondary, especially with uncertainties surrounding Trevon Diggs’ recovery from knee surgery and Jourdan Lewis’ departure in free agency.

Elam’s addition to the Cowboys’ roster is part of a broader strategy to strengthen their defense, which also includes recent signings like defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. and linebacker Jack Sanborn. These moves aim to enhance the team’s defensive capabilities ahead of the upcoming season.
