‘We’ll Handle It on the Field’: Florida State Responds to Alabama Shade

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The war of words between Florida State and Alabama is heating up ahead of the 2025 college football season, with players and coaches from both sides exchanging verbal jabs that have sparked national headlines and stirred fan bases into a frenzy.

After recent comments from Alabama players questioning Florida State’s strength of schedule and postseason credentials, the Seminoles have fired back — with confidence and a clear message.

“We don’t need to talk — we’ll handle it on the field,” one veteran FSU player said during a summer media session. “The disrespect isn’t new, but it will be addressed. Everyone will see who we are when the time comes.”

The back-and-forth began earlier this month when Alabama linebacker Jeremiah Cole told reporters at SEC Media Days that “Florida State wouldn’t last two weeks in the SEC.” He added, “They had a good record, but that doesn’t mean they’re battle-tested.”

FSU head coach Mike Norvell took a more measured tone but didn’t shy away from defending his team’s accomplishments. “Our guys know what they’ve earned,” Norvell said. “If people want to question that, they’re entitled to their opinions. But this team will speak with its play, not with headlines.”

The clash between the Seminoles and the Crimson Tide is already one of the most anticipated non-conference matchups of the upcoming season. The two teams are set to face off in Week 2 at a neutral-site game in Atlanta, a rematch of sorts after years of tension rooted in playoff snubs, recruiting battles, and now, public digs.

Florida State finished the 2024 season undefeated but was controversially left out of the College Football Playoff, fueling a national debate and bitterness that clearly still lingers in Tallahassee. Meanwhile, Alabama made the playoff despite two early-season losses, which only intensified accusations of favoritism toward SEC programs.

“This isn’t just another game,” said FSU senior defensive end Marcus Steele. “It’s about proving a point. They think we’re soft because we’re not in the SEC? Cool. Let’s see what they say after the final whistle.”

Both programs are entering the 2025 season with playoff expectations and top-10 preseason rankings. The Week 2 showdown could have major implications not just for rankings, but for bragging rights — and redemption.

For now, though, Florida State’s message is clear: they’re done talking. The next statement will be made on the gridiron.
