We’ve Got Real Problems’: John Morton Doesn’t Sugarcoat Lions’ Offensive Issues

After a brutal divisional loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator John Morton didn’t hide his frustration. While most of the postgame talk centered around execution and injuries, Morton went deeper — admitting the Lions’ offensive rhythm is nowhere near where it needs to be.

“This wasn’t about one player or one drive,” he said. “It’s about consistency, communication, and finishing plays. We didn’t do that today.”

The loss to Minnesota exposed cracks in Detroit’s usually dependable attack. The offensive line struggled to protect Jared Goff, the run game lacked its usual punch, and the timing between quarterback and receivers seemed off all afternoon. Morton made it clear that the issues aren’t just temporary hiccups — they’re problems that could haunt the team if not fixed fast.

Despite the rough outing, Morton isn’t panicking — but he is realistic. He emphasized accountability and discipline, saying the Lions have to “own it, correct it, and move forward.”

It’s a tough pill for fans to swallow, especially after such a promising start to the season. But if Morton’s honesty is any indication, the Lions know exactly what needs to change before their next test.
