Which Lions’ Offseason Moves Will Most Impact Their Matchups With the Browns in 2025?

The Detroit Lions made several key offseason moves that could directly shape how they fare against the Cleveland Browns in their 2025 showdown.

One of the biggest additions was linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, whose elite speed and versatility give the Lions a dynamic option to shadow Deshaun Watson or cover Cleveland’s tight ends — a critical need given the Browns’ offensive threats.

On the defensive line, signing Chase Young gives Detroit another dangerous edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson. This duo could cause serious headaches for Watson and the Browns’ offensive line, forcing mistakes and disrupting Cleveland’s timing.

Meanwhile, Detroit’s secondary got a major boost with the signing of veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore. His experience and ability to handle top receivers like Amari Cooper or Jerry Jeudy will be invaluable in trying to contain Cleveland’s passing game.

Offensively, the Lions focused on shoring up their protection for quarterback Jared Goff. Drafting Christian Mahogany and adding depth to the interior offensive line should help slow down the Browns’ fierce pass rush led by Myles Garrett, giving Goff more time to operate.

Perhaps just as important was Detroit’s ability to retain offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, ensuring continuity in a high-powered offense that will need every bit of creativity to break through Cleveland’s defense.

These upgrades give the Lions a stronger foundation on both sides of the ball as they prepare to take on the Browns in what promises to be a pivotal 2025 matchup.
