Trump is running into trouble finding a new UN ambassador after pulling Rep. Elise Stefanik from consideration. He announced on Truth Social that he wants Stefanik to stay in Congress, calling her a key ally.
Now, his team is scrambling for a replacement but hitting roadblocks. Richard Grenell, a former Trump envoy with UN experience, flat-out refused, saying he’s a “hard no.” Another possible pick, Morgan Ortagus, isn’t interested either.
Sen. Bill Hagerty’s name is also in the mix, but just like Stefanik, his nomination could be tricky due to the GOP’s slim Senate majority. Even if Trump picks someone soon, Senate Democrats could try to stall or block the confirmation, given their frustration with his administration’s efforts to shake up government agencies.
For now, the search continues, and Trump’s team is still weighing their options.
