A devastating plane crash has shaken communities across India and the UK. An Air India flight bound for London Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, western India, killing nearly all 242 people on board.

The passenger list included:

169 Indian nationals

53 Britons

7 Portuguese nationals

1 Canadian


Tragically, at least eight local residents on the ground—including four medical students—also lost their lives.

One passenger, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, survived and is receiving treatment. His brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, remains missing.

The Nanabawa Family – Gloucester, UK

Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa Vorajee, and their four-year-old daughter Sara were on a surprise trip to India. Loved ones described them as generous, kind, and joyful souls whose absence has left a deep void in their community.

Adam and Hasina Taju, and Altafhusen Patel – London, UK

Adam (72) and Hasina Taju (70) were returning home with their son-in-law Altfahusen Patel (51). Their loss has stunned their extended family and friends in Blackburn and London.

Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek – London, UK

This married couple ran a spiritual wellness center in London. Just before the flight, they shared a cheerful Instagram story. Their unexpected passing has left their followers and clients in deep mourning.

The Syed Family – West London, UK

Javed and Mariam Syed were traveling with their two young children. Javed worked in hospitality while Mariam was employed at Harrods. Their community is reeling from the loss of this young family.

Vijay Rupani – Gujarat, India

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board. A prominent BJP leader, he served from 2016 to 2021 and was deeply involved in state politics.

Singson – Cabin Crew

Singson, a member of the cabin crew, is remembered as the sole provider for her mother and brother. Her family is devastated by the loss of their main support.

Raxa and Rudra Modha – Wellingborough, UK

Raxa Modha and her two-year-old grandson Rudra were flying back to the UK for a memorial service after the recent death of Raxa’s husband. The town of Wellingborough mourns deeply with their surviving family.
