Terrion Arnold Changes Jersey Number to Honor Late Friend Khyree Jackson

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is paying a heartfelt tribute this season — not just through his play, but through his jersey.

Arnold, who wore No. 0 during his rookie campaign, is switching to No. 6 in 2025. It’s not just any number. It’s the same one Khyree Jackson wore when the two were teammates at Alabama from 2021 to 2022.

“Why did you change numbers? Because I wanted my brother to live through me,” Arnold shared on TikTok, alongside a powerful image of Jackson.

Jackson, a talented cornerback himself, transferred from Alabama to Oregon in 2023 to chase more playing time — and it paid off. The Minnesota Vikings selected him in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. But tragedy struck just months later. Jackson was killed in a car accident last July, before ever stepping onto the field as a pro.

The Vikings found ways to keep his memory alive, inviting Jackson’s family to a game and making them feel like part of the team. That same spirit of remembrance has now found its way to Detroit.

Arnold, who stayed with the Crimson Tide for another season before going 24th overall to the Lions, was looking forward to facing his old friend twice a year in the NFC North. That moment never came — but wearing No. 6 gives him a chance to carry Jackson’s legacy onto the field.

In a full-circle moment, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs is taking over Arnold’s old number, switching from 26 to 0 this year.

What could’ve been a regular jersey swap has become something far more powerful: a symbol of friendship, loss, and honor.
