Will Howard Credits Big Ben Roethlisberger for Support in Steelers Transition

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard is getting valuable guidance from none other than Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger.

Howard recently appeared on Roethlisberger’s podcast, ‘Footbahlin,’ and beyond that, Big Ben has taken an active role mentoring the young quarterback as he transitions into the NFL. “He’s been good. He’s been super supportive throughout the whole process,” Howard shared on the Up and Adams show.

Howard, who grew up watching Roethlisberger lead the Steelers, admires the toughness and grit Big Ben embodied—qualities he hopes to bring to Pittsburgh as well. “They need a gritty guy,” Howard said. “Watching the Steelers growing up, it was Big Ben. He was that Steel City, blue-collar guy. I want to bring that edge and energy when I take the field.”

After transferring to Ohio State from Kansas State, Howard had a breakout season, throwing for over 4,000 yards with a 73% completion rate and 35 touchdowns. With 50 career starts under his belt, Howard is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.

The Steelers now have three quarterbacks on their roster: Will Howard, Mason Rudolph, and Skylar Thompson, with Howard eager to prove he can be the franchise’s next leader.
