When the news dropped that Russell Wilson was heading to the New York Giants, fans had one big hope: that he could unlock the team’s young and talented wide receivers. The Giants have some serious potential on offense, but they need a QB who can bring it all together.
Wilson gets that, and he’s already fired up about working with rookie sensation Malik Nabers and second-year receiver Jalin Hyatt. Talking to reporters on Wednesday, he couldn’t stop praising Nabers.
“He’s explosive, man. Just watching his game, his personality, his energy—it’s all there,” Wilson said. He recalled a play where Nabers caught a short pass, made a defender miss, picked up an extra 20 yards, and took a big hit but popped right back up, celebrating the first down. “That’s the kind of competitor you want on your team,” Wilson added.
Wilson also pointed out how players like tight end Theo Johnson were blocking downfield to help make plays happen, saying that’s what championship football looks like. He even called out Nabers’ insane speed, referencing a play where he torched the Colts for a massive touchdown. “There are only so many guys in the world who can do that, and he’s one of them,” Wilson said.
Wilson Sees Big Things in Jalin Hyatt
Wilson isn’t just excited about Nabers—he’s also looking forward to teaming up with Jalin Hyatt. While Hyatt hasn’t fully lived up to expectations since coming out of Tennessee, Wilson sees serious potential.
“He’s like a running back when he gets the ball—hard to tackle, great at making guys miss, and just has that escapability,” Wilson said. He compared Hyatt to some of the dynamic receivers he’s played with in the past, like Golden Tate and Percy Harvin.
Wilson also made it clear he’s doing his homework. “I’m a film rat,” he admitted. “I’ve watched every catch, every highlight of these guys. If you want to win, you have to make it your lifestyle.”
Now the big question: Can Wilson turn these young receivers into stars and bring the Giants back to playoff contention? Or will he struggle like the QBs before him? Time will tell, but one thing’s for sure—he knows exactly what he’s stepping into.
