Russell Wilson is wasting no time winning over New York fans. Just a day after signing a one-year, $21 million deal with the Giants, the veteran quarterback was spotted at Madison Square Garden, having some fun with Knicks fans during their matchup against the Clippers.
Wilson’s arrival comes as the Giants try to turn things around after two rough seasons under head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen—both of whom are under serious pressure to deliver results in 2025. With the NFC East stacked with contenders, Wilson’s performance will be key to keeping the Giants relevant.
Big Challenges Ahead for Wilson and the Giants
Wilson is coming off a decent season with the Steelers, where he threw 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, helping Pittsburgh reach the playoffs before falling to the Ravens in the Wild Card round. But if the Giants want to compete in their division, Wilson will need to step up even more.
New York has eight picks in the upcoming draft, including the No. 3 overall selection. Despite speculation, they’re not expected to draft a quarterback. Instead, they could target top defensive or offensive line prospects to strengthen a roster that still has plenty of holes.
Can Wilson and Daboll Make It Work?
Wilson seems excited about this fresh start, and Daboll has experience working with mobile quarterbacks—so there’s hope that this partnership can click. But the NFC East is brutal, with the Eagles, Cowboys, and Commanders all gunning for a Super Bowl. Even if the Giants improve, their record might not reflect it, which could spell trouble for Daboll and Schoen’s job security.
Wilson’s time in New York is off to a fun start, but the real test begins when he hits the field.
