Ya-Sin in Danger: Lions’ Depth Could End CB’s Stint Before It Starts

The Detroit Lions are finalizing their roster for the 2025 season, but one recent addition could be on the chopping block before even taking the field.

Back in March, the Lions signed veteran cornerback Rock Ya-Sin to boost their secondary depth. Ya-Sin, a former second-round pick by the Colts in 2019, played for the 49ers last season, appearing mostly on special teams. He has also spent time with the Raiders and Ravens, bouncing around the league without securing a long-term role.

According to Chris Schad of Detroit Jock City, Ya-Sin hasn’t lived up to his early NFL potential and now sits at the bottom of the Lions’ cornerback depth chart. With Detroit’s roster crowded at corner — featuring players like Terrion Arnold, D.J. Reed, Ennis Rakestraw, Nehemiah Robertson, and Khalil Dorsey — Ya-Sin’s odds of making the 53-man squad look slim.

“There’s a chance Ya-Sin could flip the script with a strong camp,” Schad noted. “But with so many players ahead of him, he might not even get the chance, which could send him searching for yet another team.”

Lions Boast Elite Linebacker Group

While the cornerback room is in flux, Detroit’s linebacker corps is one of the NFL’s best. According to Pro Football Focus, the Lions’ trio of Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell, and Malcolm Rodriguez ranks second in the league behind only the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jack Campbell is quickly emerging as a star, earning a stellar 78.7 PFF grade last season — 10th among all linebackers. Meanwhile, Anzalone, despite missing time due to injury, posted a solid 72.1 coverage grade. Together with Rodriguez, they form one of the most formidable linebacker units in the NFL when healthy.
