With another key injury disrupting their lineup, the New York Yankees may have to explore unconventional solutions—including a rare trade with their crosstown rivals, the New York Mets.

Could Brett Baty Be the Answer?
Brett Baty has long been viewed as a future star within the Mets organization. A former top prospect, he has shown flashes of brilliance but has struggled to find consistency at the major league level. Meanwhile, the Mets’ infield appears set, with Mark Vientos locked in at third and Jeff McNeil holding down second base.
With Baty lacking a clear path to everyday playing time in Queens, the Yankees could offer him a fresh start in the Bronx. His defensive skills, power potential, and untapped upside make him an intriguing fit. A change of scenery—along with the protection of the Yankees’ deep lineup—could be exactly what he needs to thrive.
What Would a Deal Look Like?
For the Mets to consider moving Baty, the Yankees would need to offer something substantial in return. Two potential trade scenarios make sense:
- Marcus Stroman Swap: The Mets’ rotation has been hit hard by injuries, and Stroman—a player the Yankees have been open to moving—could be a viable short-term fix. If the Yankees cover a portion of his salary, it could be an appealing option for the Mets.
- Prospect Package: The Mets are always looking to strengthen their farm system. The Yankees could offer a pair of lower-level prospects in exchange for Baty, giving the Mets valuable assets while solving their own third-base issue.
A Rare but Logical Trade
Yankees-Mets trades are rare, but this one could benefit both teams. The Yankees get an immediate and long-term solution at third base, while the Mets improve their rotation depth or add future talent.
