“You Won’t Be Out There Long”: Campbell Fed Up With Turnovers

Dan Campbell isn’t here for the fumbles—and after watching the Lions cough up the ball five times in the Hall of Fame Game loss to the Chargers, the head coach made his feelings very clear.

“We’re not going to tolerate turnovers,” Campbell said bluntly after the 34–7 loss. “You put the ball on the ground, you won’t be out there long.”

It was Detroit’s sloppiest showing in a long time. The team couldn’t hang onto the ball, with running backs and quarterbacks alike getting stripped and pressured into mistakes. And while it’s just preseason, Campbell doesn’t care what month it is—he wants discipline, and he wants it now.

Turnovers were a key reason Detroit fell into a hole early against L.A., and Campbell didn’t hesitate to call it what it was: unacceptable. This team is gunning for a Super Bowl run, and there’s zero room for careless mistakes.

The message was loud and clear: if you want to make this roster—or stay on it—you better hold onto the rock.

With two preseason games left, expect Campbell and his staff to keep a close eye on ball security. Anyone who keeps putting the ball on the turf? They might find themselves watching from the sideline—or the unemployment line.
