Zac Gallen Silences Mets Again as D-backs Roll to 5–1 Win

For the second time in less than a week, Zac Gallen proved to be a serious headache for the New York Mets. The Arizona Diamondbacks ace delivered his longest outing of the season Tuesday night, shutting down the Mets over seven solid innings to lead the D-backs to a 5–1 win at Chase Field.

Gallen Dominates Again

Gallen (3–4) was in control from the jump, scattering just two hits and one run across seven frames while striking out six. He navigated three walks but induced timely ground balls—including a critical double play off Jeff McNeil’s bat in the seventh—to escape damage. Just like last Thursday in New York, Gallen kept the Mets guessing and off-balance all night.

Gurriel Jr. Delivers the Big Blow

Arizona’s offense came to life in the sixth when Lourdes Gurriel Jr. crushed a first-pitch fastball from Mets lefty David Peterson into the seats for a two-run homer. That shot padded the D-backs’ lead to 4–1 and effectively put the game out of reach. Gurriel wasn’t done—he added a double and finished with three hits on the night.

Josh Naylor also made his presence felt, scoring twice and notching a sac fly in the seventh to seal the deal at 5–1.

Peterson Falters in 6-Inning Effort

Peterson (2–2) wasn’t bad, but his command came and went. He lasted six innings and struck out six, but also issued four walks and allowed five hits—including Gurriel’s game-changing homer. Both Peterson and Gallen threw over 100 pitches, marking just the third time this season that both starters hit triple digits in the same game.

Mets Miss Opportunity Late

The Mets had a glimmer of hope in the ninth with runners on the corners and just one out. But newly anointed D-backs closer Shelby Miller came up big, retiring Brandon Nimmo on a lineout and Mark Vientos on a shallow fly to lock down the win.

What’s Next

The series continues Wednesday with a promising pitching duel on deck. Kodai Senga (3–2, 1.38 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Mets, while Merrill Kelly (3–1, 4.06 ERA) gets the ball for Arizona. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. local time.
