Giants GM Compares Jaxson Dart’s Rookie Path to Josh Allen’s Journey

The New York Giants may have their quarterback of the future — and their general manager, Joe Schoen, knows a thing or two about developing young talent.

Before joining the Giants, Schoen was part of the Buffalo Bills front office when they drafted Josh Allen in 2018. Now, after selecting Jaxson Dart 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, Schoen sees some familiar territory.

“We’ve been through this — we went through it with Josh Allen,” Schoen shared on SiriusXM NFL Radio. He recalled how the Bills initially planned to sit Allen his rookie year, only to throw him into action by halftime of the season opener. “That plan didn’t go as well,” Schoen laughed, noting that the Giants’ current QB room — which includes Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston — offers a much better situation for Dart to learn and develop.

Dart comes to the Giants after a stellar season at Ole Miss, where he threw for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes. While Wilson and Winston will handle the immediate duties, Dart is seen as the long-term solution New York has been seeking since Eli Manning’s retirement.

Schoen made it clear: the learning curve for NFL quarterbacks is steep, but with veteran mentors and time to adjust, Dart has the tools to become the franchise QB the Giants have needed for years.
