Dominic Lovett may have been a late-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, but the former Georgia standout isn’t lacking confidence—or humility. During the first day of Lions rookie minicamp, the young wideout opened up about his approach to starting over in the NFL and who he’s looking to for guidance: none other than Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
Lovett, who led Georgia in catches and touchdowns last season, knows he’s starting from the bottom of a deep receiver room. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, he’s taking the smart route—learning from those who’ve been there. “You’ve just got to be a sponge,” he said. “Guys have been here before you. Find a vet to stick with—Jamo, Amon-Ra—and let them show you the ropes.”
He’s already seen St. Brown around the facility but made it clear he’s on the lookout for Williams too. “Where you at, Jamo?” Lovett joked. “I’m excited for when the vets get back. I want to hang out, go eat, just connect with them.”
Lovett’s also not letting any criticism get to him—especially talk about him being limited to slot receiver duties. “People that say that stuff, they usually never played football,” he shrugged. “I’m ready to take on the challenge.”
And while cracking the receiver rotation won’t be easy, Lovett is ready to do whatever it takes to contribute—including special teams. He didn’t play there during his time at Missouri, but Georgia changed that, and now he’s fully embracing it. “Special teams is just another way to compete,” he said. “You need me there? I’m all in.”
With the right mindset, some veteran mentorship, and a willingness to grind, Lovett’s doing everything he can to stick around in Detroit—and make an impact wherever he can.
