D.J. Reed hasn’t even suited up for a game with the Detroit Lions yet, but he’s already fired up about the crew he’s joining—especially the guys playing behind him.
The veteran cornerback, who previously played in San Francisco, Seattle, and with the Jets, jumped on Twitter this weekend to hype up his new teammates: safeties Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. And judging by his tweets, Reed is seriously impressed.
> “Bro I’m playing football w Brian Branch & Kerby Joseph.”
“This bout to be Legendary dawg. Real shxt.!”
And honestly, who can blame him?
Kerby Joseph is coming off a monster season that saw him grab nine interceptions and lock down the back end like a true centerfield safety. The guy has range, instincts, and improving man-coverage skills that make him one of the best in the game.
Then there’s Brian Branch—Detroit’s Swiss Army knife. Whether he’s locking down slot receivers, flying downhill to stuff the run, or freelancing on blitzes, he does it all. He’s already a Pro Bowler, and it’s only a matter of time before “All-Pro” is added to his résumé.
Reed is stepping into one of the most exciting young secondaries in the league—and he knows it. Add in the fact that he brings playoff experience and veteran leadership, and you’ve got a unit with serious upside in 2025.
The Lions’ defense is stacked, and this secondary might be the glue that takes them from contenders to champions.
