Now that rookie minicamp is in the books and the draft hype has cooled, we’re hitting that quiet stretch in the NFL calendar. But the Giants aren’t slowing down—just ask GM Joe Schoen.
While the players were grinding, Schoen stopped by Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams” show to talk about what’s brewing in New York. And while he didn’t break any big news (sorry, no Gabe Davis announcement yet), he had plenty to say about the 2025 Giants.
Let’s start with the schedule—arguably the toughest in the league. With an opening stretch that includes Washington, Dallas, Kansas City, and the Chargers, it’s no joke. But Schoen sees it as a chance to set the tone.
“You want to get off to a fast start,” he said. “We’ve got division games right out the gate and a prime time home game. We’re building that team culture now so we’re ready when it’s time to roll.”
One area where Schoen’s confidence is loud and clear? The defense. With new faces like Abdul Carter, Jevon Holland, and Paulson Adebo joining a core that already includes Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, Schoen says the unit has a chance to be special.
Abdul Carter in particular is already standing out. “You hear about his work ethic, but now we’re seeing it,” Schoen said. “He’s doing all the right things. That’s what you want from a top-three pick.”
As for Jaxson Dart, the quarterback everyone’s talking about—yes, he’s that guy. According to Schoen, Dart’s leadership, toughness, and swagger are exactly what the Giants wanted. “He’s uber-competitive,” Schoen said. “Whatever it is—ping-pong, pool—he wants to win. And it shows up on film.”
While Dart’s energy is different from the stoic QBs Giants fans are used to (think Eli and DJ), Schoen’s all for it. “That passion? It’s contagious. He can rally the whole team with that.”
So yeah, the Giants are facing a mountain this season—but between a retooled defense and a fiery new QB, Schoen’s betting they’ve got the gear to climb it.
