Nick Saban Endorses Ty Simpson as Alabama’s QB1 in 2025

Even in retirement, Nick Saban’s voice still carries serious weight in Tuscaloosa — and he just used it to throw full support behind quarterback Ty Simpson in Alabama’s ongoing QB battle.

Speaking at his annual Nick’s Kids Foundation golf event, the legendary coach praised Simpson’s development and character, saying, “Ty was an outstanding high school player… he matured and developed for two years, and now he’s getting an opportunity.” Saban added that he’s “rooting for Simpson,” a statement that could carry big implications heading into the 2025 season.

Simpson, a former 5-star recruit and Gatorade Player of the Year in Tennessee, has stayed loyal to Alabama despite limited snaps and fierce competition from Austin Mack and Keelon Russell. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb has already named Simpson the current starter.

With a talented roster and explosive weapons around him, Simpson doesn’t need to be flashy — just steady. If he lives up to Saban’s confidence, Alabama could once again be on track for a national championship run.
