Dylan Smith Makes MLB Debut with a Strong First Outing

Former Alabama pitcher Dylan Smith officially made his Major League debut Monday night for the Detroit Tigers — and he looked solid. He threw two shutout innings in a dominant 13-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Back in 2021, Smith was Alabama’s strikeout leader as a junior before the Tigers grabbed him in the third round of that year’s MLB Draft. He got the call-up to the big leagues on May 30.

Fun fact: Smith isn’t the only former Tide pitcher to break through with the Tigers this season — his old teammate Chase Lee made his MLB debut in April. That 2021 Alabama squad wouldn’t have made it to the NCAA Tournament without both of those arms leading the charge.
