Packers Stay Vague About Christian Watson’s Return
The Packers are eyeing a Super Bowl run this season, but they’re going to need all hands on deck — especially wide receiver Christian Watson, who’s still working his way back from a torn ACL.
Watson, known for being a dangerous deep threat for QB Jordan Love, got hurt in the last game of the 2024 regular season against the Bears. He’s been grinding through rehab all offseason, and while he’s made solid progress, it’s still unclear when he’ll be ready to hit the field again.
Head coach Matt LaFleur gave an update on Watson — kind of. When asked if Watson might return sooner than expected, LaFleur didn’t sugarcoat it.
“Probably not, to be honest,” LaFleur said. “The guys that are available, that’s who you coach. But he’s doing great, he attacks rehab the right way, and our trainers have been awesome. He’s in the best possible spot considering everything.”
So while the update isn’t exactly bad news, it also doesn’t sound like Watson will be back for Week 1.
In the meantime, the Packers are looking at a crowded wide receiver room. Aside from Watson, they’ve got Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams in the mix. Bo Melton’s around too, though the team’s experimenting with him at cornerback.
In his career so far, Watson has played 38 games, hauled in 98 catches for 1,653 yards, and scored 14 touchdowns — averaging a strong 16.9 yards per catch. His return would definitely help Love stretch the field and bring some big-play magic back to Green Bay.
