Rodgers Could Reunite with Familiar Faces in Pittsburgh
The Packers have been loading up on receivers lately, which has people wondering — could Green Bay send one or two wideouts to Pittsburgh to help out their new QB, Aaron Rodgers?
CBS Sports threw out a few names as possible targets, and two of them are Packers receivers.
Christian Watson
First up: Christian Watson. He’s known for being a big-play threat second in the league in yards per catch last year but he tore his ACL in the season finale. He’s recovering quickly and already sprinting at practice, which is promising. Still, trading for an injured player is risky. Maybe something could happen later in the season, like at the trade deadline, but right now? Doesn’t seem likely.
Watson’s best stretch came as a rookie with Rodgers, so there’s definitely chemistry there. If he’s back by late 2025, Rodgers might be tempted to bring him along for the playoff push.
Romeo Doubs
The second name tossed around: Romeo Doubs. He doesn’t put up monster numbers, but he’s been steady — top six in catches and yards among receivers from his draft class, and tied for most touchdowns. He had a big playoff game in Dallas last year and was Rodgers’ teammate during his rookie season.
Doubs would make a nice No. 2 option next to DK Metcalf in Pittsburgh, but he’s had a couple of concussions and a suspension, which might make teams cautious. The Steelers have reportedly asked about him, though.
What’s Green Bay Thinking?
If the Packers did trade Doubs, they’d be leaning heavily on rookies and young players — including Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and the two new guys: Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. That’s a gamble, especially for a team trying to make a deep playoff run. Reed and Wicks also had high drop rates last season, so there are questions about whether they’re ready to be the main guys.
Doubs, for his part, isn’t too worried about the new competition. He said he sees his role as helping the rookies get up to speed and grow in the system.
Bleacher Report also floated the idea of the Packers trading Doubs now instead of letting him walk in free agency after the season. Both he and Watson are in the final year of their rookie deals — and when it comes to one-year rentals, teams usually don’t give up much in return.
But Doubs says his focus is on winning and being a leader in the offense this year.
