Lions WR Tom Kennedy in Danger of Being Cut Before Camp Even Starts

The Detroit Lions didn’t overhaul their roster this offseason, but even small tweaks could have big implications for a familiar face—wide receiver Tom Kennedy.

Kennedy has been with the Lions since 2019, usually hanging around as a practice squad regular and occasional fill-in. But this year might finally be the end of the road. With Detroit expected to carry just six receivers into the season—and having drafted Isaac TeSlaa and Dominic Lovett—Kennedy is now firmly on the bubble, and maybe even off it.

TeSlaa, a third-round pick, is expected to contribute right away. Lovett, a seventh-rounder, also has strong chances of making the team. Add in two undrafted rookies the Lions reportedly like—Jackson Meeks and Jakobie Keeney-James—and suddenly there’s very little room left for a 28-year-old veteran with limited upside.

Kennedy’s work ethic and system knowledge have kept him around year after year, but 2025 might be the summer his run ends before training camp even begins.
