Detroit Lions fans still aren’t over losing Ben Johnson — and honestly, who could blame them? The offensive coordinator was a huge part of Detroit’s rise over the last couple of seasons, and watching him walk out the door to take the Bears head coaching job? Yeah, that one stung.
Sure, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn left too (he’s with the Jets now), but losing Johnson to a division rival just hits different. Watching him team up with rookie QB Caleb Williams in Chicago kind of feels like seeing your ex start dating your least favorite neighbor.
But here’s the good news: according to a new poll shared by NFL analyst Warren Sharp, most fans aren’t panicking about the Lions’ coaching changes — in fact, they’re giving head coach Dan Campbell the lion’s share (pun intended) of the credit for Detroit’s recent success.
Sharp posted the results from over 9,000 voters, and the majority said Campbell, not his coordinators, was the main reason behind the Lions’ turnaround. That’s a win for Detroit — and a bit of a reality check for Bears fans hoping Johnson would instantly turn things around.
Some fans even chimed in saying they weren’t all that sad to see Glenn go, and while Johnson was a tough loss, the core philosophy (and the players) are still intact. One person called Campbell the “change agent” who brought it all together, with GM Brad Holmes and owner Sheila Ford getting love too for shaping the Lions into a contender.
Bottom line? While Ben Johnson is doing his thing in Chicago, Detroit fans aren’t sweating it too much. They believe in Campbell, the culture he’s built, and the direction this team is heading.
Let’s see who really comes out on top when these two NFC North rivals face off in 2025.
