Detroit Influence: Jets Offense to Channel Lions’ Ground Game Succes

The New York Jets could soon mirror the Detroit Lions’ successful ground game, thanks to new head coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, both of whom spent the last few seasons in Detroit.

According to The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt, the Jets’ staff might try to recreate Detroit’s thunder-and-lightning backfield formula with Breece Hall, rookie Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis, aiming to emulate what Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery achieved in Detroit’s top-tier rushing attack.

Last season, Gibbs and Montgomery combined for a whopping 28 touchdowns and over 2,100 yards, averaging nearly 150 yards per game, ranking third in the NFL. Replicating those numbers will be a tall order, but the Jets hope Hall’s explosive ability, paired with Allen’s physical style and a revamped offensive line featuring first-round tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, can get them close.

Engstrand’s experience coordinating Detroit’s passing game should also help balance the Jets’ offense. And if this Lions-inspired rushing attack clicks, Justin Fields could finally have a reliable ground game to lean on in 2025.
