The Detroit Lions’ interior offensive line took some big hits this offseason, but there’s a glimmer of hope — and it’s coming from second-year guard Christian Mahogany.
With Kevin Zeitler bolting for the Titans and All-Pro center Frank Ragnow stunning everyone by retiring, the Lions suddenly have massive question marks at the heart of their line. While tackles Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker still form one of the league’s best bookends, the middle of the line looks shaky heading into training camp.
Enter Mahogany. Pro Football Focus’ Dalton Wasserman just named him one of the NFL’s top breakout candidates among offensive linemen for 2025. The Lions are counting on him to turn that potential into production — fast.
Mahogany made just two starts as a rookie, but he held his own, giving the Lions a reason to believe he can handle a bigger role. He’ll battle for a starting spot alongside veterans like Graham Glasgow and newcomers Tate Ratledge, Trystan Colon, and Giovanni Manu. But Glasgow showed signs of decline last year, and Ratledge and Manu haven’t played a down in the NFL yet. Colon has experience, but mostly as a backup.
If Mahogany can build on his promising rookie flashes, he could help stabilize Detroit’s offensive front and keep the offense humming. But if he struggles, the Lions’ offensive line could become a serious weak spot — and that’s the last thing this team needs as they chase another playoff run.
For now, all eyes are on Mahogany as he gears up for what could be a make-or-break sophomore campaign.
