From Heartbreak to Hope: Jared Goff Opens Up About Trade to Lions in Quarterback S2

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is sharing the raw, emotional details of one of the toughest moments of his career: being traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Lions. In a moving preview clip from Netflix’s upcoming Quarterback Season 2, Goff reveals how close he came to being broken by the trade—and how Lions head coach Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes gave him a renewed sense of purpose.

The clip, which debuted on The Pat McAfee Show, shows Goff reflecting on the moment his life changed. Instead of feeling abandoned, calls from Campbell and Holmes quickly reminded him what it felt like to truly be wanted.

“It brought me from picking up the pieces to feeling reinvigorated, like, ‘Oh, this is what it feels like to be wanted and have people believe in you,’” Goff shared.

Campbell vividly recalls the moment he reached out to Goff, telling him he would be a key piece of the Lions’ future. “I wanted him to know how excited we were. He was going to be part of the foundation. We’d build this together, and he belonged with us,” Campbell said.

Goff became emotional as he described how much that support meant to him during a low point in his career. “To be the first big decision they made and then prove them right—how incredible is that?” he said. “It’s been amazing to build something together.”

Now, as Goff and the Lions look ahead to the 2025 season, they do so with a strong bond and a shared sense of unfinished business. What started as a devastating trade turned into a turning point for Goff’s career—and possibly the future of the Lions.

Netflix’s Quarterback Season 2, featuring Goff’s story, premieres next week and promises an emotional look into the journey of one of the NFL’s most intriguing quarterbacks.
