As the Alabama Crimson Tide prepare to kick off the 2025 college football season, one name continues to rise above the rest in preseason conversations: Kam Dewberry. The veteran offensive lineman is set to become the cornerstone of a retooled Alabama offense under head coach Kalen DeBoer, and expectations couldn’t be higher.
Following a year of transition after Nick Saban’s retirement, the Tide are now looking for leadership, grit, and consistency—and Dewberry offers all three in spades. Transferring from Texas A&M in late 2023, Dewberry spent last season adapting to Alabama’s system and quickly earned respect in the locker room for his work ethic and quiet leadership. Now, as a senior, he’s projected to be one of the SEC’s most dominant offensive linemen.
“Kam brings that perfect mix of toughness and intelligence,” said offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan. “He’s the kind of guy who elevates everyone around him. We’re building this offense from the inside out, and Kam is our anchor.”
With a new starting quarterback set to take over—likely junior Ty Simpson or redshirt sophomore Austin Mack—Dewberry’s presence becomes even more important. Protecting the passer and opening up lanes for rising star tailback Justice Haynes will be crucial if Alabama hopes to reclaim its dominance in the SEC West.
Coaches aren’t the only ones taking notice. NFL scouts are watching Dewberry closely, projecting him as a potential early-round draft pick in 2026 if he continues to develop. Known for his strength in the run game and improved pass protection, Dewberry spent the offseason fine-tuning his technique and reshaping his body under the guidance of Alabama’s strength staff.
“Kam’s transformation has been incredible,” said strength coach David Ballou. “He came in strong, but now he’s elite. His footwork, his leverage, his endurance—it’s next level.”
As Alabama gears up for a challenging 2025 schedule—including early matchups against Florida State and Ole Miss—Dewberry will be tasked with leading a relatively young offensive line through the fire. But teammates say he’s more than ready.
“He doesn’t say much,” said sophomore guard Mason Kline, “but when Kam talks, you listen. And when he plays, you follow.”
The Crimson Tide’s championship hopes may rest on several key factors this fall—quarterback development, defensive depth, and overall execution—but one thing is certain: the offensive line will go as Kam Dewberry goes.
And for Alabama fans hoping to see their team return to College Football Playoff glory, that’s good news.
