Ameer Abdullah’s Phone Is Quiet—But He’s Not Done Yet

As NFL training camps get underway, plenty of veterans are finding homes—but one familiar name for Lions fans is still waiting by the phone.

Former Detroit running back Ameer Abdullah, who the Lions selected in the second round of the 2015 draft, remains unsigned as camps open across the league. Despite being 31, Abdullah showed he still had something left in the tank last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, totaling over 500 yards and five touchdowns while sharing snaps in a crowded backfield.

Now, the versatile back—who’s proven he can contribute both on the ground and as a pass-catcher—is in limbo. He may not be on a roster yet, but his 2024 production says he deserves another shot. Whether it’s due to injuries in camp or teams looking to boost their depth, Abdullah could be one phone call away from suiting up again.

He’s been in this league long enough to know how it works. Stay ready, stay sharp, and be prepared to prove yourself—again. If that call comes, don’t be surprised if Ameer makes the most of it.
