The Detroit Lions have officially wrapped up six days of training camp, including two sessions in full pads, as they gear up for their preseason opener next week against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton.

Every year, a few players separate themselves from the pack early in camp — and this year is no different. Here are 10 Lions who have already made a strong impression:

1. Marcus Davenport – EDGE

After several injury-plagued seasons, Davenport has entered camp looking like a man on a mission. His talent has never been in doubt — it’s always been about availability. So far, he’s been disruptive off the edge, showing what he can bring opposite Aidan Hutchinson. If he stays healthy, this could be a breakout year for him in Detroit.

2. Jahmyr Gibbs – Running Back

Fresh off a monster rookie season with 20 touchdowns and nearly 2,000 yards from scrimmage, Gibbs is picking up where he left off. What’s really standing out is how new offensive coordinator John Morton is using him in the passing game — creating mismatches and explosive plays in space. He looks faster and even more confident.

3. Terrion Arnold – Cornerback

Arnold has come into his second year locked in and ready. He’s been a playmaker nearly every day of camp. Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard praised his growth, saying, “He’s seeing it faster. He’s feeling the routes faster. That’s a guy I’ve already seen a leap in.” That kind of progression is exactly what the Lions hoped for.

4. Sam LaPorta – Tight End

LaPorta continues to build trust with Jared Goff and could be primed for a monster year in Morton’s offense. He’s catching everything thrown his way and has been one of the most consistent players during camp’s opening week. He’s clearly becoming Goff’s go-to safety net in clutch moments.

5. Aidan Hutchinson – EDGE

Back from the leg injury that cut his 2024 season short, Hutchinson is back in full force. Before his injury, he was leading the league in sacks and pressures — and his early camp performance shows that same fire. He looks lean, explosive, and hungry for that All-Pro nod he’s chasing.

6. Isaac TeSlaa – Wide Receiver

TeSlaa has been pushing through some knee discomfort, but you’d hardly know it from how he’s performed. He hasn’t missed any reps and has come alive especially in the padded practices. His blend of size and speed is making him hard to ignore. He’s proving his toughness and hunger to contribute early.

7. Isaac Ukwu – EDGE

Ukwu has quietly been one of the most active defenders. In reviewing notes from the first six practices, his number kept popping up — five different times to be exact. He’s showing instincts and effort, and now the question becomes whether he can carry that momentum into live game action.

8. Keith Cooper Jr. – Defensive Line

The rookie out of Houston has been turning heads with his versatility. At 6’5” and 280 pounds, he’s shown the ability to line up in multiple spots across the line. He’s raw but flashing real potential. The coaches are watching him closely ahead of Thursday’s preseason debut.

9. Jameson Williams – Wide Receiver

Fans know Williams for his breakaway speed, but he’s showing off more than that in camp — particularly with route-running. Morton’s offense is utilizing him in more complex ways, and he’s answering the call. He’s catching balls all over the field and looks ready for a major leap.

10. Dominic Lovett – Wide Receiver

Lovett, a rookie seventh-rounder, is making a strong push for a roster spot. He’s contributed on offense and made plays on special teams as a gunner and returner. He’s earning second-team reps and making the case that Detroit should keep six wideouts on the final roster.

Honorable Mentions:

Grant Stuard is a heat-seeking missile. His energy and north-south attack on special teams are impossible to ignore.
Nate Lynn is also worth watching — like Ukwu, he’s battling for a reserve edge spot and has shown early disruption.

This first week of camp has revealed not just stars, but hungry players looking to make their mark. And if this pace keeps up, the Lions may have a lot more depth than people realize.
