Injury Forces Change: Lions Add Muscle While Zylstra Heals Up

The Detroit Lions took a tough hit this week as tight end Shane Zylstra was officially placed on injured reserve, forcing the team to make some roster adjustments ahead of their upcoming matchup. Zylstra, who has been a dependable role player in the Lions’ offensive scheme, will now be sidelined for an extended stretch, leaving Detroit without a reliable option in the depth chart at tight end.

In response, the front office wasted no time reshaping the roster. Offensive lineman Trystan Colon was signed to the active roster, giving Detroit an extra boost in protection and versatility up front. To fill out the practice squad, the Lions also added a familiar name — a former Ravens quarterback who has since transitioned into a wide receiver role — giving Ben Johnson and the offense another gadget player to lean on in the coming weeks.

While losing Zylstra is no doubt a setback, the Lions have shown time and again that their depth and adaptability can carry them through the grind of the season. Detroit isn’t just plugging holes — they’re looking to strengthen key areas as they keep their eyes fixed on competing for the NFC North crown.
