$29M Edge Rusher Could Be Detroit’s Secret Weapon: Lions’ Trade Radar Heats Up

The Detroit Lions may be just three weeks into the season, but their pass rush is already catching everyone’s attention — for both good and “uh-oh” reasons.

Injuries Pile Up, But the Lions Still Sack the Ravens Seven Times

Even without Marcus Davenport, who’s already on injured reserve, the Lions showed no mercy against the Baltimore Ravens. Detroit hounded their quarterback all game, racking up seven sacks in a 38-31 win.

It’s a familiar story for fans: last season, Aidan Hutchinson went down, and now Davenport’s absence has put a spotlight on the Lions’ depth. But don’t panic just yet — the team seems confident they can handle it internally. Head coach Dan Campbell said before Davenport went on IR:

“Yeah, I don’t see Davenport playing [against the Ravens]. We’re still trying to decide what to do… We do not feel this is season-ending, but don’t see him playing this week.”

Hutchinson and Muhammad: Holding Down the Fort

While Davenport recovers, Al-Quadin Muhammad is stepping into a bigger role alongside Hutchinson. Campbell isn’t rushing into the trade market just yet:

“Yes, we do. I feel good about the depth.”

Still, Lions fans know a deeper pass rush could make the difference in a tight NFC race.

Trade Radar: Hendrickson in Sight

Here’s where things get interesting. With injuries hitting other teams like the Bengals and 49ers, Detroit has an opportunity to swing for the fences. Star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson is reportedly available for the right package — think a 2026 first-round pick and a young defensive player.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox notes:

“While Hendrickson would likely be a one-year rental, Phillips [from the Dolphins] has long-term potential. At only 26 years old, any team that acquires him should be interested in extending him if he can return to pre-injury form.”

Detroit’s choice? Go for the immediate impact with Hendrickson or invest in the future with Phillips. Either way, the Lions’ trade radar is buzzing.
