Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch didn’t shy away from the truth after Sunday’s heated post-game altercation with Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
What started as a hard-fought matchup quickly turned into one of Week 6’s most viral moments when Branch slapped Smith-Schuster following the Lions’ 30–17 loss — a reaction that drew gasps across the NFL world.

“I did a little childish thing,” Branch admitted, clearly frustrated. “But I’m tired of people doing stuff in between the play, and the refs don’t catch it. They be trying to bully me out there. I shouldn’t have did it — it was childish.”

“I got blocked in the back illegally, and the ref didn’t do anything,” Branch said. “I could have got hurt off of that. But I still should not have done that. I should’ve showed it between the whistle, not after the game, and I apologize for that.”

If the NFL decides to fine or suspend Branch for the slap, Detroit could be walking into next week’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without another key piece on defense.
