Detroit’s defensive line just got a major boost. Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that defensive tackle Alim McNeill is set to make his long-awaited season debut when the Lions take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After missing time with a lower-body injury, McNeill’s return couldn’t come at a better moment. The Lions’ defense has been solid, but they’ve definitely missed the muscle and disruption McNeill brings up front. Campbell, as usual, didn’t hide his excitement when he broke the news.
“Yeah, he’s ready,” Campbell said with a grin. “He’s looked good in practice, and we’re fired up to get him back out there.”
McNeill’s return means opposing quarterbacks are about to feel a little more pressure — literally. Known for his raw strength and quick burst off the snap, he’s the type of player who collapses pockets and changes entire game plans.
Lions fans remember how dominant he looked last season before the injury slowed him down. Now fully recovered, McNeill has a chance to remind everyone just how much of a difference-maker he is in the middle of that defense.
If Detroit’s defense was already a handful, adding a fresh and hungry Alim McNeill into the mix might make it downright dangerous. Tampa Bay better have their blocking plans ready — because “Big Mac” is back and ready to feast.
