Lions’ Gibbs Draws Playful Analogy After Leading Offense to Triple-TD Effort

Jahmyr Gibbs shines in Detroit’s bounce-back victory with three touchdowns and 172 all-purpose yards.

A Soft-Spoken Star Breaks Out

Jahmyr Gibbs, often one of the quietest voices on the Detroit Lions’ roster, let his emotions show after Sunday’s 44-22 dismantling of the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium. Coming off a disappointing Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Gibbs and his teammates were determined to return to their standard of play.

“Last week we didn’t play even close to our standards. That’s probably the worst game we’ve played since I’ve been here,” Gibbs admitted after the game. “We don’t want to ever put that on tape again. So pretty much tried to get back on our horse type of game.”

After a modest outing against the Vikings, Gibbs exploded against Washington, totaling 172 all-purpose yards and finding the end zone three times — a performance that reminded fans just how versatile he can be.

Offensive Catalyst in Full Display

Gibbs was effective both as a runner and a receiver. He carried the ball 15 times for 142 yards, including two rushing touchdowns, and caught three of four passes for 30 yards with a 14-yard score through the air. His early contributions set the tone, opening the scoring on Detroit’s first drive with a 14-yard touchdown reception from Jared Goff.

Coach Dan Campbell praised Gibbs’ impact on the game, calling him a “catalyst” who kept the offense humming throughout. Quarterback Jared Goff highlighted how Gibbs’ skill set allowed the Lions to exploit matchups in Washington’s defense.

“Yeah, they do a lot of great things over there, and that’s one of their areas that they’re willing to be exposed on. And we did today,” Goff said. “He did a great job out of the backfield as a receiver. And then obviously, the run game was incredible, too. He’s a unique weapon for us if we can use him like we did tonight.”

A Touch of Playful Joy

Gibbs’ second touchdown, a 13-yard run before halftime, came with some help from teammates Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown. “I probably would’ve scored if it wasn’t for them. They pushed me in,” he said. “Shout out to them. They always give me 100%, and vice versa, I’m always going to be there for them too.”

His final score, a 43-yard rush in the fourth quarter, capped off a dominant offensive performance for Detroit, accounting for three of the team’s eight total touchdowns.

Reflecting on the team’s chemistry and shared success, Gibbs drew a charming comparison: “It’s really fun. Everybody gets the ball, everybody scores. We all have fun dancing, whatever. Just like my little kids playing.”

With performances like this, Gibbs continues to cement his role as a multi-dimensional weapon in the Lions’ arsenal, blending explosiveness with joy that’s infectious across the team.
