Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had quite a moment on national television Sunday — one that went from celebration to shock in seconds.
Late in the first quarter at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, St. Brown slipped past Washington’s defense to score a touchdown. His celebration caught everyone’s attention as he broke into the “Trump Dance,” a move made even more notable because President Donald Trump was watching from the stands.
The next series got heated. Though St. Brown wasn’t directly involved in Detroit’s following touchdown drive, Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne appeared to take offense. As the Lions celebrated again, Payne suddenly punched St. Brown in the face, a hit that seemed to come out of nowhere.
The exchange may have started with a few words between them, but no one expected it to escalate into a punch. Seconds later, Javon Kinlaw also drew a flag for lightly tapping an official, adding to the chaos.
Payne was quickly ejected, while Kinlaw received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Despite the drama, St. Brown and the Lions finished strong, sealing a 44–22 victory. The All-Pro wideout ended the game with five catches for 58 yards and a touchdown.
