Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson and Sam LaPorta Injury Status Sparks Week 11 Watch

Key Lions players’ availability remains in flux as Detroit prepares for a critical showdown with the Eagles.

Hutchinson Back in Action

Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson returned to full practice Thursday after missing Wednesday due to an elbow injury, offering a boost to a defense already stretched thin. The 25-year-old has been a force through nine games this season, tallying seven sacks, seven tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, 13 total tackles, and two passes defended.

Hutchinson’s full participation is a welcome development for head coach Dan Campbell, as the Lions look to maintain their defensive dominance amid a growing list of injuries. His presence on the edge will be crucial against a Philadelphia Eagles offense that leads the NFC in scoring efficiency.

LaPorta’s Status Remains Uncertain

While Hutchinson is trending positively, tight end Sam LaPorta remains a significant concern. The 24-year-old did not practice on Thursday, marking a second consecutive session missed due to a back injury. His availability for the Week 11 matchup against the Eagles is now in serious question.

LaPorta has been one of Detroit’s most reliable offensive weapons this season, ranking second on the team with 40 receptions for 489 yards and three touchdowns. He is also a key red-zone target for quarterback Jared Goff. Pro Football Focus currently ranks LaPorta as the No. 3 tight end in the NFL for 2025, highlighting his value to a Lions offense that averages 31.4 points per game.

Without him, Detroit’s passing game would lean heavily on Amon-Ra St. Brown, who has amassed 693 yards and eight touchdowns, while the run game relies on Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, who together have scored 13 rushing touchdowns this season.

Other Injury Updates

Several other Lions players participated in limited or modified practice sessions Thursday, providing additional context for the team’s Week 11 preparations:

  • Pat O’Connor (knee): Did not practice.
  • Amik Robertson (hamstring): Shifted from full to limited participation.
  • Kerby Joseph (knee) & Terrion Arnold (concussion protocol): Both remain sidelined.
  • Offensive line & skill positions: Penei Sewell (ankle), Taylor Decker (shoulder), Marcus Davenport (pectoral), and Sione Vaki (ankle) participated in limited capacity but are expected to play.

Looking Ahead to Sunday Night Football

The Lions will finalize their injury report after Friday’s practice ahead of a pivotal NFC clash against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET. Detroit fans will be watching closely to see if LaPorta can return, as his presence—or absence—could significantly impact the Lions’ offensive game plan.
