Goff Takes the Blame: “We Shot Ourselves in the Foot” After Disastrous Night

It wasn’t just a bad night for the Detroit Lions’ offense — for Jared Goff, it felt like a personal rough one. After their 16-9 loss to the Eagles, Goff didn’t hide behind excuses — he came clean about what went wrong and where he feels responsibility lies.

According to his own words, the Eagles disrupted Detroit’s rhythm all night. There wasn’t just pressure — there were tips, batted balls, and a clear disruption at the line. Goff acknowledged that they “shot ourselves in the foot a whole lot,” adding that their execution hurt them more than Philly’s defense did.

Route timing was another problem. Goff admitted that when looking at his connection with Amon-Ra St. Brown — who was targeted 12 times — some throws were missed, and some were miscommunicated. “There’s a few I’d like to have back … slight miscommunication … it shouldn’t be that bad,” he said.

Most poignantly, though, Goff didn’t hide his disappointment in letting down his defense — a group that showed up big. “Our defense plays really well,” he said. “You feel like you let them down … I certainly do … it sucks.”

But he was quick to pivot to hope. He reminded everyone that the season isn’t over — “we’ve got a lot of football ahead of us,” he stated — and expressed confidence in their ability to respond and improve.

Goff’s message was clear: yes, it was a rough performance. Yes, things broke down. But he’s owning it, and he’s ready to come back stronger. For a team chasing a playoff run, that kind of accountability could be exactly what they need.
