Detroit’s injury report offers a glimmer of hope as the team prepares for Week 12 clash with New York.
Key Players Back in Action
The Detroit Lions received some much-needed positive news on Thursday as three of their starters returned to full practice ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the New York Giants. Running back Jacob Saylors (back), tight end Brock Wright (ankle), and linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) were all listed as practicing fully, signaling potential availability after varying degrees of absence or limited action in recent weeks.
Head coach Dan Campbell expressed cautious optimism regarding the returns. “He looked pretty good last week, so we’ll see,” Campbell said, referring to Rodriguez. On Wright’s progression, he added, “He’s on track. We might ease him in a little, but he looks solid.”
Saylors, who has been dealing with a lingering back injury, played last week and appears poised to see action again. Wright, upgraded from limited practice Wednesday, is expected to step back into his TE1 role, although he may see lighter work to ensure readiness. Rodriguez, just activated off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, will be taking the field for the first time in nearly a year.
Depth Concerns Remain
Despite the encouraging returns, not all injury issues are resolved. Guard Miles Frazier (knee) remains on the PUP list, with a final decision expected next Wednesday as the evaluation window closes. Campbell noted that while linebacker Brian Branch missed Wednesday’s practice, his status has improved, stating, “I feel good about Branch, a lot better.”
Cornerback DJ Reed also remains a question mark, although he told reporters he’s ready to contribute whenever called upon. “I’m a gamer, so I’m ready,” Reed said. “It’s not my call, but my mindset is ready to go.”
Giants’ Injury Report Highlights
New York isn’t entering this matchup at full strength either. Edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder) and cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee) were among those who did not practice, while quarterback Jaxson Dart (concussion) and wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) were limited.
Notably, Eric Gray, New York’s running back, remains on the PUP list with a knee injury, and the team will continue monitoring several defensive starters ahead of Sunday.
Looking Ahead
With three Lions starters returning to practice, Detroit gains a much-needed boost in preparation for a pivotal NFC matchup. While questions remain about depth and overall health, the full participation of Saylors, Wright, and Rodriguez provides Campbell with options and flexibility heading into Sunday’s game against a Giants squad also managing its share of injuries.
The Lions’ ability to navigate these final practices and manage workload will be crucial as they aim to maintain playoff positioning in the competitive NFC North.
