Jared Goff Opens Up: Fatherhood Changed Everything, Even His Red-Zone Mindset

As the Detroit Lions prepare for their marquee Thanksgiving game, quarterback Jared Goff is embracing a brand-new role off the field — being a dad. He and his wife, Christen Harper, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Romy Isabelle, in July 2025.

In a recent Good Morning America interview, Goff revealed that while he’s still learning the ropes, he’s discovered some of his strengths — and jokes about his weaknesses. “I’m really good at making her laugh,” Goff said with a smile. But when it comes to diaper duty? He’s humble: “I’m not great at diapers. My wife’s way better at it.”

Parenthood, he explained, has given him a fresh perspective on life and football. “It’s really cool and gives me a whole new perspective on … life in general,” he told his wife on a podcast.

For Lions fans, Goff’s journey off the field hits close to home. As he leads Detroit’s offense on Thanksgiving, he’s also building a small family legacy that reminds everyone no matter how big the stage — some of the most meaningful moments happen away from the stadium lights.
